Major and trace elements of lavas, dykes and plutonic rocks of the late Proterozoic orogenic sequence in SE Sinai, the Kid Group, have been analysed. The dykes and lavas of the southermost sequences, the Tarr Complex and Heib Formation, are calc-alkaline, whereas the lavas of the Malhak Formation and the Sharira Gabbro (to the north of the Heib Formation) show both calc-alkaline and tholeiitic trends. The trace element characteristics of the Tarr Complex and the Heib and Malhak Formations, despite between-sequence variations, are all comparable with ensialic island arc magmatism, whereas the Sharira Gabbro shows some MORB characteristics in addition to the island arc imprints. The Sharira Gabbro and the lavas of the Malhak Formation possibly formed in a developing back-arc basin behind a continental-marginal ensialic island arc (the Tarr Complex and Heib Formation). During the Pan-African orogeny, the constituent units of the Kid Group were mutually juxtaposed along major ductile shear zones of thrust-fault character. This plate-convergence regime involved initial magmatic arc development following northward subduction, and subsequent collision between the arc complex and the Proterozoic continental margin.  相似文献

Images from three filters of the Voyager 1 wide-angle camera were used to measure the continuum reflectivity and spectral gradient near 6000 Å and the 6190-Å band methane/continuum ratio for a variety of cloud features in Jupiter's atmosphere. The dark “barge” features in the North Equatorial Belt have anomalously strong positive continuum spectral gradients suggesting unique composition, probably not elemental sulfur. Methane absorption was shown at unprecedented spatial scales for the Great Red Spot and its immediate environment, for a dark barge feature in the North Equatorial Belt, and for two hot spot and plume regions in the North Equatorial Belt. Some small-scale features, unresolvable at ground-based resolution, show significant enhancement in methane absorption. Any enhancement in methane absorption is conspicuously absent in both hot spot regions with 5-μm brightness temperature 255°K. Methane absorption and 5-μm emission are correlated in the vicinity of the Great Red Spot but are anticorrelated in one of the plume hot spot regions. Methane absorption and simultaneously maps of 5-μm brightness temperature were quantitatively compared to realistic cloud structure models which include multiple scattering at 5 μm as well as in the visible. A curve in parameter space defines the solution to any observed quantity, ranging from a shallow atmosphere and thin NH3 cloud to a deep atmosphere with a thick ammonia cloud. Without additional constraints, such as center-to-limb information, it is impossible to specify the NH3 cloud optical depth and pressure of a deeper cloud top independently. Variability in H2 quadrupole lines was also investigated and it was found that the constancy of the 4-0 S(1)-line equivalent width is consistent with the constancy of the methane 6190-Å band equivalent width at ground-based resolution, but the much greater variability of the 3-0 S(1) line is inconsistent with either the methane band or 4-0 S(1) line. In hot spot regions the 255°K brightness temperature requires a cloud optical depth of about 2 or less at 5 μm in the NH3 cloud layer. To be consistent with the observed 6190-Å methane absorption in hot spot regions, the NH3 cloud optical depth in the visible is about 7.5, implying that aerosols in hot spot regions have effective radii near 1 μm or less.  相似文献

Seventeen demersal fish species collected during a commercial line fishing trip off northern New Zealand are listed together with data on abundance, location, and habitat. These are the first records for the area; 15 are the most northerly records for the species and major range extensions are recorded for Centroscymnus owstoni, Deania calcea, Etmopterus lucifer, Pseudophycis barbata, and Hyperoglyphe antarctica. A prespawning aggregation of ling, Genypterus blacodes, is recorded for the first time from this region.  相似文献

Juvenile albacore (Thunnus alalunga) caught in the New Zealand region between 1970 and 1972 are about 1 year old. There is some evidence of southward migration of these small fish along the west coast. Small albacore also occur in the North Pacific.  相似文献

A solid-state feature was detected at around 2175 cm−1 towards 30 embedded young stellar objects in spectra obtained using the Infrared Spectrometer and Array Camera at the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope. We present results from laboratory studies of CO adsorbed at the surface of zeolite wafers, where absorption bands were detected at 2177 and 2168 cm−1 (corresponding to CO chemisorbed at the zeolite surface) and 2130 cm−1 (corresponding to CO physisorbed at the zeolite surface), providing an excellent match to the observational data. We propose that the main carrier of the 2175-band is CO chemisorbed at bare surfaces of dust grains in the interstellar medium. This result provides the first direct evidence that gas–surface interactions do not have to result in the formation of ice mantles on interstellar dust. The strength of the 2175-band is estimated to be  ∼4 × 10−19 cm  molecule−1. The abundance of CO adsorbed at bare grain surfaces ranges from 0.06 to 0.16 relative to H2O ice, which is, at most, half of the abundance (relative to H2O ice) of CO residing in H2O-dominated ice environments. These findings imply that interstellar grains have a large (catalytically active) surface area, providing a refuge for interstellar species. Consequently, the potential exists for heterogeneous chemistry to occur involving CO molecules in unique surface chemistry pathways not currently considered in gas grain models of the interstellar medium.  相似文献

The Chuos Formation is a diamictite-dominated succession of Cryogenian age, variously interpreted as the product of glaciomarine deposition, glacially related mass movement, or rift-related sediment remobilisation in a non-glacial environment. These interpretations have wide ranging implications for the extent of ice cover during the supposedly pan-global Neoproterozoic icehouse. In the Otavi Mountainland, northern Namibia, detailed analysis of soft-sediment deformation structures on the macro- and micro-scale support glacitectonic derivation in response to overriding ice from the south/south-east. Overall, the upward increase in strain intensity, predominance of ductile deformation features (e.g. asymmetric folds, rotational turbates and necking structures, clast boudinage, unistrial plasmic fabrics) and pervasive glacitectonic lamination support subglacial deformation under high and sustained porewater pressures. In contrast, soft-sediment structures indicative of mass movements, including flow noses, tile structures, and basal shear zones, are not present. The close association of subglacial deformation, abundant ice-rafted debris and ice-contact fan deposits indicate subaqueous deposition in an ice-proximal setting, subject to secondary subglacial deformation during oscillation of the ice margin. These structures thus reveal evidence of dynamic grounded ice sheets in the Neoproterozoic, demonstrating their key palaeoclimatic significance within ancient sedimentary successions.  相似文献

The 7.1 Ma Broken Hills adularia-sericite Au–Ag deposit is currently the only producing rhyolite-hosted epithermal deposit in the Hauraki Goldfield of New Zealand. The opaque minerals include pyrite, electrum, acanthite (Ag2S), sphalerite, and galena, which are common in other adularia-sericite epithermal deposits in the Hauraki Goldfield and elsewhere worldwide. Broken Hills ores also contain the less common minerals aguilarite (Ag4SeS), naumannite (Ag2Se), petrovskaite (AuAgS), uytenbogaardtite (Ag3AuS2), fischesserite (Ag3AuSe2), an unnamed silver chloride (Ag2Cl), and unnamed Ag?±?Au minerals. Uytenbogaardtite and petrovskaite occur with high-fineness electrum. Broken Hills is the only deposit in the Hauraki Goldfield where uytenbogaardtite and petrovskaite have been identified, and these phases appear to have formed predominantly from unmixing of a precursor high-temperature phase under hypogene conditions. Supergene minerals include covellite, chalcocite, Au-rich electrum, barite, and a variety of iron oxyhydroxide minerals. Uytenbogaardtite can form under supergene and hypogene conditions, and textural relationships between uytenbogaardtite and associated high-fineness electrum may be similar in both conditions. Distinguishing the likely environment of formation rests principally on identification of other supergene minerals and documenting their relationships with uytenbogaardtite. The presence of aguilarite, naumannite, petrovskaite, and fischesserite at Broken Hills reflects a Se-rich mineral assemblage. In the Hauraki Goldfield and the western Great Basin, USA, Se-rich minerals are more abundant in provinces that are characterized by bimodal rhyolite–andesite volcanism, but in other epithermal provinces worldwide, the controls on the occurrences of Se-bearing minerals remain poorly constrained, in spite of the unusually high grades associated with many Se-rich epithermal deposits.  相似文献
